The film Flash Gordon (1980), illustrated the importance of music to film, and still to this day, “Flash” by British rock group Queen, is one of Ryan’s favourite theme songs.
Ryan’s first album Ultravox, the Collection (Ultravox were one of the first exponents of the British electronic pop music movement of the late 1970s/early 1980s). New Order and Simple Minds, influential role models. More recent “artists with impact” are Kevin Yost, The Gotan Project, Costes, Pink Martini and, Kruder & Dorfmeister…to name a few.
Living in Broome, Western Australia, a few years ago indulged Ryan’s ocean and beach passion.
Berlin, visiting in late 2010 was the match that ignited the fuel, inspiring him to pursue and focus on composing for a living. “Berlin, with its amazing music and art culture, the people and the socialising, made me realise I can pursue music professionally and that anything is possible”, he says.
“Magic happens and count your blessings!”, he laughs.
